Imagine: Truck & Type in Bologna!

Vom 22. bis zum 24. März wird TRUCK & TYPE auf der Konferenz »Imagine iT« in Bologna sein.
Bella Italia und mehr als 30 internationale Redner, Workshops und Ausstellungen zu einem sehr interessanten Thema: Kulturelle Unterschiede in Typografie, Grafik Design und Visueller Kommunikation und deren Wurzeln.
Organisiert wird die Konferenz von Typevents und der Accademia di Belle Arti Bologna. Auf der Website von Typevents gibt es weitere Informationen und auch das vorläufige Programm.

More than 30 speakers representing 15 nationalities from 20 countries will be presenting at Imagine It!: a celebration of cultural differences in the worlds of writing, typography, graphic design and visual communication. The conference - the first of its kind in Italy - will take place at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Bologna, 22-24 March 2007.
Speakers include George Hardie (designer, Pink Floyd LP cover The Dark Side of the Moon) Piero de Macchi (font designer, Italian Yellow Pages), Etienne Mineur (Incandescente, France), Mirko Pajé (Mediaset, Italy) and Andreu Balius (Typerware, Barcelona). Amongst other names are Brian Lucid (Massachusetts College of Art) and Giovanni Anceschi (IUVA, Venice).
Reflecting the conference theme, many speakers are migrants adapting their native culture to that of their adopted countries. Keynote speaker, Jan Middendorp, originates from Belgium but lives in Germany; James Clough, is English by birth but resides in Italy; Meena Kadri lives in the UK by way of India and New Zealand; Rathna Ramanathan is an Indian and living in the UK; whilst Johanna Bilak, is Slovenia by birth but an inhabitant of the Netherlands.
»One reason for the excellent response to the call for papers« says co-organiser Carlo Branzaglia, Accademia di Belle Arti, Bologna »is the theme: culture as the fruit of profession and tradition - current as well as historical - which finds its origin in writing and visual communication. Italy, home of the Latin alphabet, used across the western world, is the ideal place to address this theme.«
Workshops will provide a range of tantalizing opportunities: an audience generated narrative from Timothy Donaldson, US; a magazine concept from Rojo, Spain; slam poetry by Kirstin Hughes and Deobrah Shmerler, US; as well as graffiti, street art and graphic design from Meat, Italy.
Exhibitions will be an important element of Imagine iT. Italian Renaissance, organized by Kalimera will show contemporary Italian graphic design inspired by a homonymous book from Red Publishing; Prove di lettura, a photographic scope about books will show the work of students of the Accademia students; and Fun Font, an a exhibition on the prototypes of digital typography, and a tribute to the late Piermario Ciani.

Imagine iT is pleased to have the patronage of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI), and the endorsement of the Type Directors Club (TDC) the Alliance of German Designers (AGD), FaceToFace (F2F); Alliance Francaise des Designer; Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI ) and Associazione Italiana Progettazione per la Communicazione Visiva (AIAP).
